This is our first time raising baby chicks. We "adopted" the 9 baby chicks that our county extension office donated to my preschool to hatch. The lady told me they are either Cobb or Hubbard (she'll find out for sure this week). Even though I know NOW that they are primary meat birds, I'm hoping to have enough hens to produce enough eggs anyway that our family of 4 won't have to buy any at the grocery store for a while :)

ANYWAY, here is my concern. One of my chicks has red around its eyes. It's not necessarily crusty looking, just kind of reminds me of mange or something, with the down missing? He/she appear otherwise healthy--eating, drinking, scratching, pooping. Also, it's the same in both eyes. Thanks for any suggestions, thoughts...

I'm glad the chick is eating and drinking normally. Watch closely to make sure none of the other chicks are pecking her.
