Hello, I just got chicks on Saturday......we have one that has a swollen eye. We noticed it the evening after she came home and put her in her own box, she has been by herself scence....she is eating and drinking fine. I put antibacterial ointment on it thinking she may have gotten pecked. I even went back to the feed store and when I looked in the cage i noticed others with the same issues. The cleark said that he had not lost any so he said they were probally pecked. I am concerned because yesterday i noticed the other eye starting to swell. I know it is not pecking because she has been alone....the two others we got are not sick but came from the same bin at the feed store. They are Rhode Island Reds and is a Buff Minorca, he said they were a month old....this may be true for her but the RIR's seem older, they are double her size. I do not want to take her back to the store, I think they (the Buff's in the bin) are sick, but i do not know what with or what to do. The feed store does not seem concerend about it, but it is the only such place we have in the area. She also streachs her neck and shakes her head a lot. I am sending picks, first of the bad eye and second of the bump coming up on the other eye. If anyone knows about this please send advice.

my silkie kept shaking her head alot and stretching her neck, so we gave her two shots of Tylan 50 and she became right as rain.

Could be a mycoplasma infection. Tylan would be the best shot, you can also get soluble for the water. Shame on that feed store!! I would treat the entire flock--but first check on the dosage for young chicks as I don't know this.

I took her back there yesterday and they were just going to trade her, i told them i wanted to keep and treat her. They are really nice people but do not seem to know about chickens, they had no idea what was wrong with her or the others, but they were treating thiers with antibiotics? I couldnt stand the thought of her going back in the bin with the other birds till she dies. So i bought some antibiotics and have been giving it to her, she is still alive, and eating, but she seems to be slowing down a lot. It is really hard because I am a first time chicken mom:idunno
