So sorry for your loss Hope you check out the MHP/Blooie thread, it's very informative and has converted alot of us from the heat lamp/light.

I have only ever used heat lamps and never had an issue...It all depends on the brooder...Lots plays into our successes with rearing Chicks....

People are always too quick to blame the heat lamp for troubles. I've read of chicks chilling and dying using the heat pad because they don't know to get under it, or are too weak. I doubt the heat lamp heat itself was the problem as the OP said they have successfully used one before.

Did you use the same brooder setup that you had your round of successful chicks in for this batch or did you do something different?
