Baby Chicks and mom

    How long after a hen has chicks before she starts laying again ?

    It depends upon the hen. Usually they don't start laying until they've 'weaned' them to foraging for themselves.

    It can be as early as 5 to 6 weeks, but it can be much, much longer. Most of mine aren't back to laying until about 12 weeks after hatch.

    Anywhere from five or six weeks to twelve or thirteen weeks. It depends upon how long she raises them; some mommas kick 'em out on their own at five weeks, some continue to be momma to 'em for months.

    my OEG kept her babies with her until they were 15 weeks old [​IMG] Not a single egg that whole time.

    It varies, usually from 6 to 12 weeks.....
