We got 26 chicks friday morning from murray mcmurray,2 were dead right out of the box, its sunday morning now and we have lost 6 more since, everything is good like temperature, chick starter, good water with electrolytes, and pine shavings in brooder. They look good then all of a sudden one will get lethargic and die not long after, been keeping up on pasty butt not sure whats going on any help?

Pasty butt could mean they have a problem...like coccidiosis.
Can you get Corrid for them?
Feed store or tractor supply store near by?

They are doing good, none have died since sunday, The hatcherys excuse was they must have been very stressed during shipping, they did have to travel from iowa to florida,so we will see how it goes from here.

I live about 45 miles from Murry McMurray was going to get chicks from there but they only have males left till April. I went to tractor Supply and got a few bantams and some longhorn.
It could have been the shipping, my cousin only gets hers from Murray McMurray

I'm finding that A LOT of people are post with these same problems...with shipped birds....poopy butt...dying quick.
I have ordered chicks and had them shipped to me BUT..mine do not travel far or long.
They are hatched on a wed and shipped out of a wed and I rec them on thur morning and I haven't yet had any problems.
I wonder if it has to do with ones that are flying/taking a few days to get to their forever home.
