Baby chicks eyes stuck shut

I have a one week old baby chick. Her eyes are stuck shut and seem very dry. I've tried using a q tip with warm water but it did not help. Any ideas what might be going on or what I can do to help? Thanks for the help

Many farm stores carry terramycin eye ointment which is safe for chicks. I would pick some up (usually under $20) and apply it to the lids. This will moisturize as well as treat most infections. Hopefully as any exudate softens, the lids will be able to open.
