This is the 1st time my family has had baby ducks. they all came out fine a few eggs were left behind and a day later we find another one that hatched out my father in law helped it out but it never came out of the house and the mother duck wont take care of it like wont even go over to it. it seems to be able to stand but not walk, it has one eye closed and it doesnt seem to want to drink or eat, its weak and doesnt keep its head up for long buti have it wrapped up and got it to drink very little what do i do to get it to eat and drink?

Ducklings dont tend to eat much for 48 hours after hatching. Just keep her really warm and keep the food and water available at all times. You could add some sort of vitamins to the water to give her a boost maybe?

By the way, "really warm" means around 90F. Safe, with available water in a container she cannot drown in, Gro-Gel and Sav-a-Chick are a couple of vitamin-electrolyte-probiotic products that people use to help out.

Thank you guys so much or commenting so soon. We don't have a pet place where I live but walmart has vitamin drops for birds it doesn't say not to use with anything would that be ok? I'll have to order some things but I'm not sure how long till I can revive them. Is the eyes and legs a problem or is that normal? Thank you for your help!

I wish you could post a pic of the eye problem You might try a tiny bit of salt to a cup of warm water and rinse the eye it may just be stuck from hatching and have some membrane left can you tell if there is anything on the eye? as for walking they really don't do much at first but rest under mama so keeping it warm and letting it rest up from hatch for the first 24 36 hrs then try to get it to take some feed mixed with a little warm water and some fresh water to drink. a tiny bit of sugar water may help perk it up too. but only offer a few times. I'd get the bird vitamins .

I think @Lacrystol suggested that for ducklings that hatch out with gummy stuff on their eyes and heads, to gently wipe it with a clean q-tip and water….Of course, not wipe the eye, but around the eyes. A very mild saline solution (WebMD has a recipe) might help if getting the duckling cleaned up doesn't straighten things out completely.

she can barley stand on her own she keeps moving her head around then lays it down and falls a sleep. it doesnt seem like shes going to start walking soon but she can stand a bit and i got her some vitamins. it seems shes pooped twice since i brought her in the house i have to put her in a cat carrier and close the cage cause i have a cat and dont want it around her. she can peep but doesnt drink much at all and i have to hold her and move the water to her beak cause she doesnt know where its at.

She needs niacin immediately. Doesn't look like an eye problem looks like a Little sick and weak baby. When' they are sick they will keep there eyes closed

Couple of things i would give her first get some vitamin b3 complex drop a pill in a quart of water. You said your by Walmart and got some bird vitamins can you send me a pic of the ingredients. You have to avoid iron. Second get some vitamin e. This should help with the dizzy likeness that she's doing with her head.

The vitamin b3 (niacin) will help with her leg issues. You can clean her eyes and see if they open but I'm guessing that's not the main issue. She needs to eat and drink. Usually they don't eat a lot but water is very important and with the vitamins in the water that's a BONUS.
I would also add poultry Drench to the water that you can get at tractor supply but for now get some polyvisol without iron right there at Walmart its vitamins for kids or babies something like that. Give her a couple of drops orally, She will shake her head and that's OK just watch the throat. If she swallows she got some. Do that about two or three times a day. Also put a full dropper and a half in her water.

The vitamin e should say 400 IU on it Give her one a drop of that again watch for swallowing if she can't hold her head up make sure you do for her
