Baby peeps eating newpaper!

Ok, today they are almost a week old. This is the 1st day of no paper towels in there. I noticed some of the chicks pecking and running with the news paper. Then, I saw them eat it. Is this normal, will it hurt them?

I don't use newspapers at all they can still get spraddle legged at that age.....from paper towels I go to good size wood shavings...no cedar....

I have had a few eat newspaper strips and they were fine... I'd give them some entertainment in their brooder. I think mine ate it because they would pick at it, it would tear, tear some more and voila, a paper worm...

Ok I will put down more towels on top of the newspaper.
What should I put in there for entertainment?

I don't do entertainment....they eat, drink and sleep....
