Hi BYC enthusiasts ! Am across the continent- Rwanda in the heart of Central Africa. Am very excited about joining you all. Am yet constructing a simple/ rudimentary Coop/Cage for a small no. Of birds. I will be more happy to share with pics of my 'dummy' backyard project.
    Ur advice is most appreciated...

The biggest prob however, will be getting standard accessories for use such as troughs, nipples,..etc. anyone on the forum closest to Kigali can alert me..

[IMG] glad you have joined us.

You should try posting under "where am I, where are you" to see if you can locate members closer to you, but in a quick search the only threads I found are in South Africa.

I don't have the links to post, but there are several that show some innovative home made feeders and water founts that you could consider if you cannot locate commercial products. Chickens aren't picky about what you use to feed and water them.

Good luck with your plans to get your own flock.

I'd love to see your pictures! Sunflour is right, chickens don't require anything fancy...they just want to be able to eat and drink, how you deliver it to them is more of the chicken keepers preference I think. Do you have your chickens now?

There are a lot of posts with ideas for homemade feeders and waterers on these threads:

Good luck to you and if you have questions, feel free to ask.

Welcome from Australia! We too are new and have found lots of helpful info on this site:)
Someone has already recommended the "I am ... Where are you forum". We have joined the Australian one and it's good for exchanging ideas on local products. Also have a look at the feeder and coop threads for lots of low cost ideas. Here's some of ours ...[IMG]

I just started the cage structure today, hopefully will have the presentable one by end of tomorrow. Meanwhile am looking for the right birds, about 10 to begin with and hope to keep both hens (layers) and quails but in different cages.
