Backyard Chickens

I'm on the hunt for a couple of breeds that would be good for beginners? I am thinking I'll need ones that are good with being confined to their coop due to our city ordinance saying the chickens must stay in their coop at all times. I've been leaning towards Easter Eggers. Any suggestions or advice?

I would suggest one of the breeds that have a well deserved reputation as being very calm and gentle (potential lap pets) and handling confinement well such as Australorps, Orpingtons, Cochins, Silkies, Brahmas, Sussex, or Faverolles. Easter Eggers are typically docile but can be a bit standoffish (mine tolerate handling, but they don't really like it). Whatever breed you decide to get, good luck with your flock.
