I just got off the phone with the bank, my account is now safely frozen until we figure this out!

I was looking at my online banking, and I noticed a charge from this morning for $4.89 from IM GAMES COM LLC.
I didn't use my card today or yesterday, so I called the bank.

The charge is from somewhere in Denver! I googled the company, and this is apparently a very common scam. The info is stolen very high up the information chain, because it has happened to people who never use a card online.
The companies charge very small amounts to millions of people, and the money eventually ends up in Eastern Europe.

This was a massive reality check for me.
Go check your accounts!

We had 3 fraudulent charges on our account on Mother's Day. It was from a Pilot truck stop in Florida. Needless to say it was not our charges as we live in Arizona and were not traveling. Credit Union told us charges would be declined but they were "forced thru" some how according to the Manager. We were asked why we didn't fill out the fraud paperwork?! I repeat..... we were told the charges were declined!!! Guess who closed that account and moved to a new bank?

I agree.... be very careful with all of your personal info..... we have no idea who or how our info was stolen.

I too had a credit card compromised today. I got a legitimate "fraud alert" email from my credit card company advising me of a suspicious charge of $3.86 on my account early this morning to a company in New Orleans. I called credit card company and while I was talking with the rep. another charge of $1. was attempted to be made on Google check out. That charge was immediately denied and the card was canceled. The small charges are "test charges" by the thief to see if the card is active if it is not flagged they make larger charges.

I give my credit card company (Barclay's) a lot of credit for catching the "suspicious activity" and notifying me so fast. They also are sending out a new card ASAP without any hassle.

For those of you with Yahoo email, like I have, there have been two friends of mine that have had their accounts hacked - sending emails to their contacts for Canadian Viagra. Of all things.

Quote:I use Yahoo and although I haven't had any trouble, my friend's mother who is on Yahoo has all these emails supposedly sent from her being sent to all her contacts. It's a link to a Canadian prescription drug site. Sounds like the same scam. It looks just like an email from her, linking to this website. I actually thought she sent it, and I'm somewhat internet savvy.

My debit card was denied last week at Walmart. I knew this was wrong. I called my bank and found out my card was placed on, "fraud alert." I have never even heard of that before. Come to find out, I was told I would receive a letter in the mail explaining the situation. They said that somewhere that I had shopped had their account hacked, so everyone that shopped there with a card had their cards placed on alert. My card was cancelled and I received a new one in the mail today.

I had to go a whole week without a debit card. I had almost forgotten how to write a check.
