Based on a great post, I was able to determine that the bantam barred rock I just got is male (undefined head patch and light legs). I've always only had hens. We only have 1.25 acres, so I'm concerned about noise once he is grown. I have read that rock cockerels are pretty laid back. So, looking for advice. Can I expect a few cockadoodles a day...like no more irritating than a dog barking occassionally, or will my neighbor's hate our guts? I need to get in the right mental state; is this a potential pet, or do I need to view him as future dinner ? 20180411_203716.jpg 20180411_203705_001.jpg

The rooster I had and the ones I have now, crow very seldom, but our neighbor's rooster crows often all day long. If you live where chickens and roosters are legal, then I wouldn't worry about it. Crowing is a pleasant sound to me, it's what you expect if you live in the country. And maybe you are not correct about it being a male....
