Bantam Cochin gender???

    I have a blue Cochin bantam and I'm not sure what gender it is?? It's four weeks old already but I'm iffy about it still. Thoughts??? It would be so helpful thank you![​IMG][/IMG]

    At six to eight weeks old, with most breeds you're mainly interested in the comb and wattles. Some chickens can be sexed much younger (early blooming cockerels) while others are late blooming and harder to tell. Six weeks is about the minimum for most, though sex linked and auto sexing chickens can be sexed as soon as they hatch and dry off.

    Cockerels behave more 'cocky'. They might have a more upright stance, be more dominant and start more fights. At 10-12 weeks old cockerels start to get their male feathering - the pointy hackle, saddle and sickle feathers. Pullets have round feathers. Pullets also have more uniform coloring, while cockerels are more patchy with leakage. Of course, a lot depends on the breed and individual.

    Thank you so much! We are REALLY hoping it's a hen along with our frizzle Cochin bantam! How big Will They grow to be??

    You're welcome! Depending on the line and sex, I'd expect them to average around two lbs once fully grown. [​IMG]
