I was given 2 bantam roosters and 2 bantam hens; can I put them in with my BR and RIR hens. I do not have a rooster other that these two bantam roosters; will they fertilize the larger hens is my concern?

My bantum boys did try to mate the hens, all of them including the bantums, BRAHMAS, and production reds. Sometimes it looked like they were successful. Don't count them out just because they are small, they do not see it that way. Hope this helps.

May I ask why you're worried about fertilized eggs? They're fine to eat. Personally, I think it's funny watching a little roo try to cover one of the big girls!

My little bantam rooster LOVES his big hens. I have no idea if he actually fertilizes them. I've never seen him in the act. But I collect the eggs daily to eat.

My banti roo (Caspian) was the best roo ever to my standard girls. He would love them, protect them, bring them yummy things to eat, and they loved him right back! I had to rehome him though...he got agressive towards people when my mom and dad came home from over seas...the last straw was when he drew blood on my mother.

Can you see him? He is in the food bowl between my EEs [IMG]

I had other young roos at that time, and when they started feeling their oats, and trying to mate with the big girls, Caspian would chase them off and put them in their place...my biggest girl, and EE named Waffle, would ONLY mate with Caspian, and NO one else. Any others, she mercilessly flogged, and chased them off. I think the banties will do just fine with your standard girls.
