I have 4 chicks that a friend hatched for me. I was told chest color was pretty good at knowing the sex but they are 4 weeks today. Their crowns & woddles are pretty red. Chest color I had 2 white chests & 2 grey chests. I put bands on the 2 grey chests as I can only keep pullets. We will grow them out till they crow then they will go back to my friend who hatched or I will sell them as they do come from show stock that did very well at the shows. My hen is raising them.

This was a grey chest. Is feathering out very black down the back.

This one almost died at 3 days old when it got too cold, hen couldn't get them back into the nest box. So it might be growth stunted or maybe its a pullet?

3 out of 4, these all are developing crowns & woddles

I concur with the other two posters. My Barnevelder boys showed comb development early, and my girl had hardly any.
