They look like the Barred Rock hens I have. It is very strange that they are a year old and not laying. This is my first experience with this breed (they are currently 4 weeks old), but all of my other breeds usually start laying at around 4 months of age.

I would ask him why he thinks they are not laying before taking the leap. Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

They could not bee laying simply because of time of year and molting. They could also be older. BUT I won't deal with people who post ads on CL and don't respond. Move on.

My Barred was 20 weeks when she laid her first egg. She has been a great layer ever since.
