Barred Rock - Is She a He?

This is my beloved "hen" Trixie. Someone in the flock started crowing a couple weeks ago but won't perform for an audience and I can't figure out the culprit. Is it her?!

I sure hope so. We can't keep a rooster and she's the nicest most friendly bird of the flock.

That's a pullet. The Barred Rock roosters have a way lighter pattern then the hens and the comb looks just where it should be for the age of the bird

I have two barred rocks and one of them would make a bizarre goose-like honking sound when she was a pullet. She's two years old now and will make a crow-like sound sometimes. It could still be her making the noise but she looks like a hen to me, too.

Sometimes when there is no rooster around, a hen will pick up the dominance and start to crow, rare but it does happen from time to time.

Sounds like you need to post pics of all your birds. Crowing at this young age means someone's a boy, but it's not Trixie.

The Silkie Twins - in a previous thread about these two, it was a nearly unanimous opinion that they were pullets... but I'm not knowledgeable enough to tell for sure.
