They said something of her being poor quality and not breed her. I just thought it was because of the weird feathers that curve around her neck and the feathers that sit kinda funny on her back.

I think they were talking about not breeding her for show, since she is hatchery stock. But you can breed her to whatever rooster you want.

Perhaps they meant don't breed her if you're wanting a good line of barred rocks which meet breed standard?

That makes sense. I'm not worried about having show chickensnor am I looking for the "perfect" breed. Lol if she wants babies she'll get her babies!

My barred rock has curly toes so I'd probably not breed her but she is the sweetest and most curious bird. She truly is the perfect chicken in my eyes <3

I am not as knowledgeable as some folks here. but I believe that your young chicken is a cuckoo pattern not a barred pattern.
I borrowed this description from google
"Cuckoos are usually a darker, more smudgy, improper type barring. They also feather out normally. Barred birds are usually much more crisp and defined in barring, and a good non-production bred bird will have slow feathering. "
hatchery quality birds do not always hold true to the standard, while the cuckoo marans standard calls for one color leg doesn't mean that all the hatchery ones will be correct..
wait till she lays an egg the marans should lay a much darker brown than the plymouth rock.

I wish the pics would do what's going on with her feathers justice. She looks like my older barred rocks but just slightly off. Mainly her pattern looks like that because she keeps herself pretty poofy. When her feathers are laying flat against her body the lines are more crisp in her feathering.

Poor quality bred to poor quality = poor quality offspring.

Poor Quality bred to Good Quality = 50/50

Good quality bred to good quality = good quality offspring.

It's more likely to be a BR than a Marans.
It has BR colour feet.
Therefore I think we can safely assume it's just a BR.
The pattern smudging is probably due to her being hatchery quality.

A couple of my Rocks have curly neck feathers and one has curly toes. You'll never guess her name. My girls are from TSC.
