Hi, I am new to this so forgive me if I mess it all up! lol I have never been around chickens ever, and now I have 4 around 7-9weeks. I am very confused about one of the Barred Rocks. She is suppose to be a hen, but looks so different then the other one. She has 5 toes?, Her tail is puffy and doesnt touch, plus she is quite small. Not sure of her exact age but I was told she was 8weeks. I am going to try and post pics! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Michelle

Absolutely amazing....all my barred rocks have 3 front toes and a back toe. My males have the same plus the spur 'nub'.

Very neat [IMG] I hope someone can help you out with the specifics...

Those look like pullets, but with the weird five toes issue and their seemingly unsual curved head/beak set, I think they're crossbred, honestly. . .

Thank You!!! I actually was starting to have a feeling that they were cross breds, but as long as they are hens we are happy!![IMG] They are in our backyard, and our HOA def doesnt allow them, & a rooster would kinda blow our cover! lol

It looks like a pullet to me for sure. The coloring is very similar to my BR ladies at that age. The questions of the head and toes situation says that there is probably some other blood in there. From my limited research in genetics, the barred coloring seems to be a pretty dominant presentation in certain mixes, so she could turn out to be like a BR in every other way, aside from the toes and such.

All of my BRs have the three main toes in the front and the one in the back. Do her legs have a pinkish tint? It might just be my computer or the photo, but my peeps are all quite yellow (the ladies have a dark wash on the front).

    Good looking birds, though. Congrats!!![IMG]

she's got to be a cross with a 5 toed breed. Nice barring though for a cross.
