I have 2 hens I were told were barred rocks. I got them completely different people. One is a 2 ish yr old hen and the other is about 8 months old. They look completely different! Can you tell me what you think they are or are they both barred rock with a different color pattern? the 8MO has a VERY brown colored head thats getting more so as she gets older.

    2 yr old

I'm thinking either you have a BR cross and a pure BR or both are crosses, however only one carries the leakage (neck color) from the cross.

Quote:the pure and cross would make sense as the guy we got the 2 yr old from was very picky about his birds and has wonderful purebred ones as with the guy we got the 8 MO from also gave us another screwy breed

He told us she was a buff orpington >.>

Yes he is an idiot. His poor birds were in cages stacked on top each other. The cages were dark and were maybe 3ftx4ft for a hen and rooster and many of the hens were over bred and bloody. Quite sad. It doesn't madder what breed they are as I don't plan on breeding(cant have a rooster and and just want eggs) but i was curios.
