I have lived in NH all my life and know we have bears but did not expect to see one coming around corner of my house at 9:30 this morning. At first I thought it was my rottie who got out but then it lifted its head. I was just about to put out babies in their yard for day. Now I am concerned about what it would actually do. These are temporary yards as babies are 3 to 8 weeks old so have to catch them to put back inside. Still building the real outdoor pens for when they are older.
Any advise on this and what I should do concerning fencing now I know they are nosing around. This place hadnt been lived in for 4 years before I got it and is surrounded by woods. I have been cutting down trees but this bear wasnt in woods it was in side yard and I have 3 dogs which usuallt they dont come around or so I thought. Any help is appreciated with being new to chicks. I am getting goats as well and that has me worried too.

Electric fence everything nothing short of a powerful zap will stop a bear from eating your birds/goats and dogs. If a sow comes around with cubs rest assured she will defend them with her life.

Born and raised in Alaska , electric fences will not work for long, have seen them ripped apart by hungry bears. If bears live in your area you will just have to be ready for them. I hope you have a good firearm. THATS THE ONLY WAY TO DEAL WITH BEARS IF YOU HAVE CHICKENS OR ANY OTHER KIND OF LIVESTOCK. Seen a lot of people try other ways of dealing with bears, nothing works. And if the one sticks around it'll try finding more food around your home( dogs, cats, livestock, kids, ect. Hate to be blunt but its the truth

Doesnt sound encouraging thats for sure. As I wanted geese and ducks. But seems it woukd be too appetising to them. Thanks for advise. I take it electronet wont work. This was on black bear and asked neighbors if they had them around and they said they hadnt seen them before. I only have babies right now so only out part of day . But I am out there all the time. In fact was cutting down a lot of saplings this week.
