Hi,
I adopted my current little flock from a school that hatched eggs this spring. The chicks were born on May 3, and so they're a little over 3 months old at this point. As they've matured, it seems that we have one very lovely and healthy rooster in the mix.

Here are a few pictures of Gizmo the rooster:

If anyone in the NJ, eastern PA, or even southern NY/CT areas are interested (or know of a potential good home), please let me know! He's really sweet and these pictures don't do him justice.

Yeah, he started crowing last week. :( We weren't 100% sure until that point, although we were beginning to suspect it.

I tried putting a no-crow collar on him, and he absolutely hated it. I might try again, but he was very distressed and got his beak stuck on the first try. Only lasted about 3 minutes.

Sometimes hen's crow too. I would watch s/he for a little bit more.. you never know as I am not seeing any rooster feathers on him. s/he looks like my black sex link jolene that EVERYONE asked if she was a rooster. She was loud, the flock leader and had a huge comb and waddles. Do you know what breed your guy is?

good luck!

Thanks for the info. I would be very surprised if this turns out to be a hen since s/he crows so often, but it's certainly not the crystal clear crowing that I've heard from other roosters. It's sort of a lame (but loud) warbling crow. We're not sure of the breed because the teacher at the school that we adopted them from just ordered "mixed" eggs.
