Why do Jasper's feet look funny?

They are cute!! Do they let you hold them? You just bend over and pick them up??

We are treating him for scaley leg mites. He was a rescue rooster and when we got him, his comb was bleeding and he had a bad case of scaley leg mites, but now hes getting the proper nutrition and eats as much as he wants, he is recovering fast. Thanks for looking!

I have a hen whose legs look like that - I was afraid that's what it was - do you know much about it? Does it spread among other chickens in the same area? What do you do for treatment? Can you actually see the mites on the legs? Mine are japanese black tailed white and their legs are really short (though not as short as they should be) so it's kinda hard to see. Took me awhile to take notice, but I only see it on the one hen.

Quote:Yes, it spreads. The best treatment is vasaline and sevin powder.

I need to get another pic of Jasper, because he is starting his molt and most of his tail feathers are missing. He looks hilarious!
