Hi everyone, so we have a chicken with a bent neck, I'm not entirely sure when it was first noticed as my mother in law is the main chicken mummy, she's on holiday so now I'm the substitute, any way chickens bent neck was highly visible a couple of days before MiL left, we thought it was her crop but it's empty. I did some feeling around and it's like her neck ist bent in an S shape she can eat mostly, but I don't know if she's drinking, she's sometimes lethargic, walking funny or just sitting there with her eyes closed, so I'm giving her water with a syringe a couple times a day to keep her hydrated...

As you can see her neck isn't sitting normal. She can't straighten it herself but I have been able to stretch her neck out mostly straight, but I don't want to force it in case she's seriously hurt, but she does make any noise or struggle whenever I'm investigating her.
I did some looking around on the Internet but I didn't find anything really all that similar, I don't think it's wry neck, chicken was born in march I think, isn't she a little old to have that?? I have no idea what's wrong. Anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks for your help

Hey, I have a chicken that got attacked the other day, something pulled out her feathers and she had blood around her neck. I think just her comb caused the blood but I also noticed that her head is back and her bone is sticking out in the front. She's already blind in one eye but she has her eyes closed and makes noises like she can't breath. she kind of looks like the chicken in this thread. She won't drink or eat anything. I'm afraid she might die. any help would be great.

Mswheeler, if you could post a picture of the injury it would help. Also if you could go up to the top left and use the gray box "start a new thread" in the emergency forum you would get more replies to your request for assistance. Is it your hen's breast bone sticking out the front? I would put some weak betadine or other antiseptic on it to clean it, then apply Neosporin ointment (plain). Is she having trouble breathing?

Thanks very much for your quick reply and that link, think I'll definitely try the vitamin e treatment. I guess I'll let you know how my chicken fares over the next couple of weeks.
