I am going to be incubating some eggs soon so I can add a few new chooks to my flock. I have neighbours in VERY close proximity and need breeds that tend to have a quieter nature! I have narrowed down to BARRED ROCKS, BUFF ORPINGTON and BLACK AUSTRALORP. Any experience with these breeds? Are they as quiet as they are supposed to be?

I have a Buff Orpington and a Black Australorp and they both are very quiet birds as you would expect from those breeds. Very nice hens. I don't have any roosters.

Thank you gtaus for your response. I have heard buffs can have a very loud egg song? I know it all tends to come down to the chickens you have rather than the breed at times but have you found this at all? I’m having to rehome my cream legbar as she has an egg song that goes on for about 3 hours and you can hear her miles away :barnie:lau! The neighbours aren’t best pleased...
