Best Broody

Just a quick question or opinion... Which breed of ducks make the best broodies, besides Muscovy

I would say a mallard since they are the closest to their wild roots because they are probably only several generations removed from the wild. Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks also says that they are excellent mothers along with Metzer's website. Not to mention they're cheap.

last spring my mallard disappeared for a while but then came back with 11 ducklings and now she has disappeared again. i am hoping she has gone broody again

she was very very protective over her babies she would alwase put herself between anyone and her babys even her fellow duck friends could not get to close to the baby's other wish she would attack the big ducks and take her baby's some where Else and she took them back to her nest every afternoon well before dark and did not come out till mid morning

I believe calls,mallards, and Welsh Harlequin make pretty good broodies.
