in your opinion rank broodys from 1 to 5
silkie, silkie, silkie, cochin and a good mutt hen
My single Silkie has been quite wonderful, but my Orpingtons (B/B/S and Buff) have been awesome as a broody! I wouldn't trade them for anything!
Here's a pic of one of my Buff Orpingtons, Sunny, this past spring with one of her newly hatched Welsummer chicks.
Silkie, Buff Orphington, & my 5 year old Turkey hen. Thats only 3 but she's big enough to count as 3 hens.
im having trouble between deciding on silkies or buff orps which do u think is better?
I've only had one but she was really something! A cuckoo Marans.
Here she is with all 11 of her babies (actually purchased fertile eggs):
here is mine silkie that hatch out yesturday
I have only ever seen one broody in action, actually make that 2, it was one type of chicken! they were both pekin bantams and were excellent, one hatching out mutt eggs and the other hatching quail so it has to be the pekin for me, they say any feathered footed breeds generally make good broodies.
