Best feed for older, non-laying chickens

^This. It works well if you only have the older hens or if you have a mixed flock. If you have a mixed flock, then just serve oyster shell (or other calcium) on the side for those that want/need it.

Layer feed is very limiting. Really only good while they are laying, not good in the winter, not good for mixed flocks, etc. Layer feed is fine for factory farms, but not as much for backyard flocks.
