We are considering getting some hybrid brown egg layer hens just for our egg customers. Does anybody have a favorite? (My husband is partial to light colored chickens, I like the darkies!)

We're looking from some "hybrid vigor" and yes, some of them are sex-linked.

    Black Sex-links
    Golden Comets
    ISA Browns,
    ETC...

I HAD a black star. She layed an egg everyday for 3 years. I just sold her, today actually! She was a great hen. I would suggest them.

My brother has been partial to Golden Comets for a good number of years.

You know, with a barred rock dam and a RIR or Buff O sire - - you get black sex-link chicks. Just sayin'

My red sex links and black stars were the first to lay!! They were born on May 11, 2008 and we were getting eggs by September. And they lay an egg a day ever since! And they are friendly too! [IMG]
