I'm planning on buying some baby chicks soon, and I'm looking for some advice on good sources. Any recommendations?

Do you have an idea of what breeds and about how many birds you will be looking for?
If you are looking for small numbers, Meyer Hatchery http://www.meyerhatchery.com/ will ship as little as three (My Pet Chicken is dropped shipped from them).
If you are looking for larger numbers, a couple of the most popular big hatcheries, besides Meyer seem to be McMurray http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/index.html, Ideal http://www.idealpoultry.com/, and Cackle http://www.cacklehatchery.com/page10.html
I've been happy with all three. There are quite a few other smaller hatcheries, or ones that have more limited numbers of breeds, so it would depend what you are looking for.

I can tell you some silkie breeders if your interested in silkies. Which breeds do you want and do you want hatchery birds or breeders quality birds. It all depends on what you want. pet quality birds can be found at most hatcheries. Breeder quality or "show" quality can be found from breeders. Of course with babies a show quality does not guatentee a show bird but they usually are closer to the standard of perfection if your into that sort of thing. So it depends on what your looking for. Pet quality or breeder quality
Pet quality is usually 3 to 5 dollars a chick maybe a bit more. Breeder quality can range from 15 dollars to 30 dollars per chick. Also varies With breed. hope this helps. So which breed are you interested in?

I got my order from Ideal Poultry in the this morning. So far, very happy. I ordered 10 chicks and they sent me 19 (the extras were males) to help keep each other warm. They all survived the trip from Cameron, TX to near Corpus Christi, TX. It is a recommended sponsor of BYC & in my research, had the widest variety of available chicks for this time of year.
