Smaller breeds need less space than larger breeds (bantam vs standard)

Depends on the size of the bird, larger ones need more space, more flighty breeds like leghorns and buttercups dont do good in confinement while other ones don't but it can also depend on the individual birds personality :) Bigger the run more birds you can have and less you have to worry about how they're doing in such confinement :)
