My big brahma rooster Earl seems to be paying a lot of attention to one of our Australorps. He's following her around everywhere she goes. I went into the coop to look for eggs and they were both behind the door clucking. She was trying to make a nest, I think, and he was looking over her back kinda supervising. When I came in, they went outside and whereever she went Earl was right behind her. He wasn't trying to breed her. Why would he be doing this? And why won't the hen lay in the nest boxes? I've got "eggs" in the boxes but she doesn't want to go in there. What else can I try?

Sounds like Earl and his girl are behaving like normal couples do. My rooster has his favorite hen(Jewel) and he follows her every where, they are very much in love. It is really cute to watch him pick stuff up in his beak only to drop it for Jewel. He takes great care of her. Earl has a good relationship with this hen. I don't know what type of nesting material you are useing.? But try something different? Some times that does the trick
