My first serious problem in over 2 years. I have Golden Comets who are almost 2.5 years old. One girl has a distended belly. She looks fat. There don’t seem to be any lumps. I put her in my house with food ands water. She immediately started eating. I also gave her some Greek yogurt. I’m thinking she might be egg bound but I have no idea really. If anyone replies to this post I’ll try to get some pictures.

I'm sorry your bird is not doing well.
Unfortunately this is probably not going to end well so prepare yourself.

Is this the same bird that was laying shellless eggs a few months ago?

I’m not sure because all 4 hens are identical. I solved the soft shell problem by throwing oyster shell pieces in the run. They must have thought it was a treat and the shells are back to normal.

This type of bird is meant to lay a lot of eggs for the first couple of years.

Unfortunately this type is known to come down with these type of reproductive issues at about this age.

It would be anyone's guess as to which exact issue she is having but the mention of the round belly makes internal laying highly likely. There is almost nothing you could do to reverse that.

Yogurt was probably not going to do anything but I don't see anything wrong with giving her whatever she wants to eat just to keep her comfortable.

Thanks. I’ll keep her comfortable to the best of my ability.
