I just read that it has spread to nebraska where I am, and how do I know if my chickens are safe? They are in a coop not free ranging, will that keep them safe?

It depends on how the bird flu is actually spreading. If it's wild birds how could you possibly prevent it? Other than that I would stay calm, but keep caution when visiting other farms or allowing people over who are around other farms/flocks. Bird flu is in Wisconsin and we still free range. I figure, sadly, if they get it, they get it and there isn't much we could do. We keep a clean area and do the best we can and so far so good. From what I've seen mostly large factory farms are getting hit and their birds already have weakened immune systems from the conditions they live in.
