Maybe this is a common occurrence. I have had chickens before but I has been a while and always free range. I recently was given some chicks from a local elementary school class hatch project and noticed that the Rhode Island red seems to have what I guess is a birth defect? The center toe on both feet doe not have a nail bed at all. So it's toe without a claw. Is this common occurrence? How is this going to effect the chickens ability to scratch?
Clearly I wouldn't want to allow this one to reproduce if it is a roo, but if it ends up being a hen... And it's toe does not cause a long term health problem. I don't see why I can't let her make eggs for us. What do y'all think?
