Can someone please tell me how an egg gets fertilized? My son asked me this yesterday and I have no idea, biologically, how it works. I am still working on understanding all the anatomy differences of a chicken anyway. Maybe someone could point me in the direction of a diagram of the internal organs of a pullet and cockeral also? Thanks.

    Fertilization is internal.

You didn't say how old your son is but there is a whole lot of information available online. The University of KY has some really good photos with their materials:

For a younger child, something like this, maybe:

Thanks so much. My son is 12. The links to UK were exactly what I was looking for.
