I have a cross between a white leghorn and a Plymouth bard rock that is black with gold specks and lays brown eggs. Has anyone else had this happen?

Could you post a picture of this hen?
The laying brown eggs does not surprise me. Neither does the black. The gold specks perplexes me though.

And which breed is the mother, father?

Was the BPR the cock or hen? If cock it may have actually been a male black sex link (sometimes confused with BPR by the unsuspecting eye), which would explain some color leakage such as gold.

Are white Leghorns dominant or recessive white? If dominant white, any other color could be hiding in there.

They're dominate white but if pure white leghorn they have two copies of dominate white. Dominate white covers black. One copy covers black but will leak splotches. Dominate white doesn't effect red/gold.
A white leghorn can't hid red/gold so they can carry just anything underneath.
Long story short. I don't see how a white leghorn didn't produce a mostly white bird? Especially how it would produce black. That's what dominate white covers.
Also white leghorns or barred rocks should be carrying red/gold.
    Brown eggs isn't a surprise.
You better take that chick to Maury I think the wrong rooster is getting blamed.
