I know it is too early to tell, but initial thoughts would be appreciated as I bite my nails. This one is meatier and slightly bigger than the other breeds I received. S/he is also quite curious and independent.

Little pinkness in the wattles and large comb but too early too tell I think. Update more pics in a couple weeks?

My black Australorp is confusing me as well...she looks like I pullet but acts like a cockerel. Every time I go in the room she jumps up on the water feeder to look at me and comes running at my hand when I put it in the brooder while all the other chicks Run away. I've never had this breed before but maybe it's just a breed trait. She's about 4 to 5 weeks old and has no comb development yet.

Sure thing!

My first one of these too!

I think it's a male. Seems like a lot of color and development in the comb for 4 weeks. Watch the comb. If it keeps getting more red then it's for sure a male. Most of my female Australorps show no comb development at all by 6 weeks old.

As for temperament, the Australorp are usually very friendly and some of them just beg to be a pet.... i usually oblige and spoil them :D
