We've had these birds for the past three years and have been fairly happy with them. They are a calm bird for the most part and seem to lay well in the heat of the summer. As a matter of fact we purchased them because they handle the heat so well.

I've been trying to find pure breeding lines with little success. We have utility hens purchased from a major hatchery.

I guess I am beginning to wonder if given that both our RIR and Leghorns have higher egg production and seem to lay well in both the summer AND winter, if we need to continue raising BA's.

Do we have any BA breeders on here? What do you see as the strengths of these birds?

Our goal is egg production, egg color, temperament, being able to thrive in a pasture system, and we would like birds true to their breed standards.
