Hello,

I have a 6 month old black copper maran who just started laying. I noticed her comb had some dark coloring on it but thought it was dirt. I tried wiping it off but it’s not dirt. We have had some cold nights this month so didn’t know if it was frost bite? None of the other chickens have this. Never had chickens before so just wondering if this is normal or I if should be worried?

Does she run into any fencing trying to get away from other chickens? Is she low in pecking order? That can also make her comb black. If it is frostbite on the tips, it is very mild.

Looks like a mild case of frost. It should return back to normal in coloring once the cold spell passes.
I agree, frost bite. Should be fine. Unless it's truly cold enough to affect more then just the comb, she should be fine.

She is low on the pecking order :( My two black marans tend to get bullied.
