Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone has had a hatch similar to mine. I gave my broody Buff Orpington 8 BCM eggs. The parents are the first picture of mature chickens. When the hatched I had three chicks with typical markings of a black copper Maran and the other 7 are a dark brown color. Any ideas what they could be ? Maybe a cross in the line somewhere? Thanks !

Are you sure that the chicks are full Marans?

Yes. I posted the picture of the parents in the starting thread. They look full BCM to me. Unless they look mixed to anyone else? I got the eggs from a friend and she only has one rooster (BCM)

Because yes, the two BCM that you posted look pure, except that the girl looks maybe full black, could just be the photo though....

But... if a different rooster jumped in the pen, his genetics could be in the eggs for up to a month.

I always separate out breeds for 6 weeks before incubating eggs, just to make super sure... not everyone does.

I was just wondering if another rooster could have jumped the fence...
I’m not sure how far one would travel but I’d say unlikely. I’m curious to see what color eggs I will get from the brown chicks, if hens.
