Does anyone know what kind of chick will come from a Black Orpington crossed with a Lavender Orpington?
According to the genetics calculator, almost everything bred to lavender will come out as solid black or solid white, except for another lavender or blue. It shows lavender and black coming up as all solid black chicks regardless of which parent is black and which lavender.
I'm not real sure. I'm still in the early learning stages of genetics. I know most blues you can buy as eggs are actually labeled as black/blue/splash, because they could be any of the three. Lavenders are also referred to as self-blue, because when you breed lavender to lavender, you always get another lavender. If I understand correctly, if you breed blue to blue, the resulting offspring could be black or blue, or splash. I'm racking my brain, but I can't for the life of me remember what I read the ratios of those are.
