I have a black sex link rooster & hen and just curious about what their offspring would look like. I understand that they don't breed true & would not create another sex link. I am really wanting to know if their chicks would be solid black or barred? Anyone have any ideas or experience with sex links & breeding?

If I recall right you'll get

    25% barred cockerels
    25% solid cockerels
    25% barred pullets
    25% solid pullets.

the bsl rooster will have only one copy of the barring gene. He gives that to half his offspring, regardless of gender. The solid bsl hen has no barring to pass along, so the chicks get nothing from her.

I had a bsl rooster over a variety of solid hens for a few years. I'm not sure if the barring isn't as strong, or my base color of the birds just didn't let it show through as well as black would. I got some pretty hens that are all barred, even if it's hard to see....
