About 5 weeks ago my husband and I picked up a couple of pullets. One golden lace Wyandotte and one so called " Black Star" and I'd say they are about 12 weeks old...

Something very peculiar about the star though...her legs are bluish grey as is the skin on its beak, no sign of comb development up on the head whatsoever and the oddest thing is, the feathers on her head are straight up and down and about 2.5 in tall and filling out by the day...just like a Polish. I've been trying figure out what the heck she is...but can't find anything that states the Polish breed comes in all black. I mean she is completely black with no other color variation and has all her big girl feathers.... Can anyone help? The only black Polish pictures I've seen has some white somewhere on its body....

    Thanks for any info...[IMG]

Black Stars typically have a little red on the breast feathers and have a greenish sheen on her black feathers. I'd say you don't have a black star.

    Welcome to BYC!! [IMG]

Polish can come in totally black. The only one I've seen was on, though. The white crested black Polish seems to be aa lot more common then totally black.
She also could be a cross of some some sort. Pictures would help...besides we LOVE pictures!!! [IMG]

PS...I meant to say that the bird you are describing is not a Black Star.

Sure not a black star! Could be a mix of something.

Looks alot like the two Crevecours (pardon spelling) we got with our ornamental layer collection. They are all black and have the same creast as our white polish chick.
    Just my opinion

Speckledhen has the "Poufy-Head Sisters" that have the cutest little topknots. Their father was a cochin/silkie mix, I think. Could be a X of some kind, or a pure crested variety. Sure is cute--I'd be happy to have a surprise like that!
