When we first got our hen as a chick, she already had an eye that wouldn't open (blind). She has been doing fine with that, but now it looks so swollen. Almost looks like a ball is under the eyelid, much larger than just the eye. What could be the cause of this? The other eye looks healthy and none of our other chickens are having this issue. Thoughts?

Welcome to BYC. Can you post a picture of the eye? Some respiratory diseases can cause swelling around the eye and face, but other possible causes could be eye infection from pecking or foreign bodies, or more rarely, tumors. Do you notice any eye or nasal drainage, sneezing, wheezing, or gasping? Any foul odors?

I dont have a picture, i can get one tomorrow though. I noticed it then had to rush off to work. For the time i was watching i didnt noticed any sneezing, wheezing, gasping etc. I didn't notice nasal drainage either but honestly didn't look for that. The picture below isn't my chicken but it looks like this. This hen has never been able to open this eye, but it definitely looks larger.

I dont have a picture, but i can get one tomorrow. I wasnt able to watch very long, i had to rush off to work. But the amount i was watching I didnt notice any sneezing, wheezing etc but didn't check for nasal drainage. The picture below isnt my hen, but looks like this. She was blind from when we first got her, but it definitely looks like a small marble is under the eye lid.

The hen in the picture is just closing her eye, perhaps from irritation or an eye infection. Try to open your hen's eye and look in it for any drainage, white or yellowish pus, or a foreign body. Seeds and dirt can cause infections. Take a picture if possible.
