i think that my chicken may be blind. i've noticed before that her pupil is damaged and appears small (almost nonexistent). she seems unresponsive to close contact with her eyes but definitely responds to sound and vibrations. she doesn't struggle finding food or water but i do have other chickens so i'm not sure if she's just listening to their sounds. is there an obvious way to check this?

Pinpoint pupils or irregular shaped pupils, and color changes to grey in one eye can be a sign of ocular Mareks disease. Hopefully it's not that, but here is some info:

her pupil doesn't look like that. it's just VERY small and not circle

Can you post a picture? To check her eyesight you might place her up on a roost or table, and put your hand in front of her eye to see if she avoids it. Also take a bit of egg or another treat and place it down and watch how she sees or react to it.

i can get some pictures tomorrow but when i put some treats out earlier she seems to look at them/for them more with the eye that's has a normal looking pupil

I would check the eye every day to see if the color changes or turns grey. I'm not a vet, but I would guess that it could be Mareks, and there can be changes over a couple of weeks. Have you ever seen any lameness, tumors, or strange unexplained deaths in any other chickens? Were they vaccinated for mareks? There is probably nothing that you can do for it, but just make sure that she is getting around and to her food and water. If anything changes, let us know.

no lameness or unexplained death. all seem healthy. a few of my others have been vaccinated but not all of them.

here's the normal eye

here is the problem eye
if there is an issue what can i do about it?
I have a chicken with an eye that looks just like that bottom picture. She was injured by a raccoon this summer. She's blind in that eye, but she's perfectly healthy otherwise. She took about a week to get used to it, and now she acts completely normal.
