hi. i’ve been treating a hen for a watery, swollen eye. it was crusted shut but has remained open for 48 hours after i started tylan 50 and vet rx. after(obsessively) reading these forums i decided to check her choanal slit and wowza is it packed. it’s yellow and it stinks. i pressed her nostril after a warm compress and an unsatisfying amount of pus came out. i pressed on it with a qtip dabbed in warm saline. i know it will make her feel better if it comes out. can someone guide this newbie?

I would give the Tylan orally, a few drops at a time, letting her swallow. Tylan can cause tissue damage with injections sometimes, so it is safer to give orally. Sometimes when giving a subcutaneous injection, there can be leakage at the site.

i dislodged a chunk this morning - nowhere near all of it but enough to losen it up and get things going. her eye is still weepy but it looks more like mine when i don’t take my claritin - not infected and goopy.
i have her her tylan 50 in the neck today and it left a bubble and bled some - is that bad?

update: i’ve been working at that pus calcification in her choanal slit since friday and got another big chunk this morning. holy cow it stunk. i’m going to irrigate her sinuses a little bit throughout the week and hopefully see some movement. her eye is still watery so im flushing with saline.

sunny visited the vet today. we started a sulfa and anti inflammatory. i’m to continue the pus removal much to sunny’s displeasure.

my sunny girl died today when they were removing the pus from her face at the vet. not sure what happened - she was likely septic. there was lots and lots of pus so she was very sick.
