I have. 5 week old chick that I noticed was standing off yesterday and not feeling good. Isolated her and gave food and water. Drank a lot of water. this am, picked up and water came out of her mouth. Her crop is squishy and water comes up. Never had this happen. What do I do?

Sorry about your chick. What do it’s poops look like? When you picked it up, you may have pressed on it’s crop which caused vomiting. Young chicks tend to eat around the clock at that age, and crops may be full. What are you feeding it? Since it is acting lethargic, I would worry about coccidiosis, which also may cause a slow to empty crop. Symptoms are runny poops, lethargy, not eating, and standing hunched or puffed up. Corid from you local feed store can treat it. Dosage is 2 tsp (10 ml) per gallon of water for 5-7 days. It is safe for all chicks to treat at once. If you can’t get Corid right away, get it drinking more water and electrolytes wold be good.

Thanks. I had her already on electrolytes but just added the Corid and gave to the flock as well. She seems less listless today and is happy with her heat lamp as well. Fingers crossed this helps things.

I would stop any electrolytes or vitamins while on the Corid, and then you can resume vitamins if you wish. Corid works by mimicing thiamine.
