Blocking sun off the Silkies?

I would like to block some of the morning sun off of my silkies. They stay in a 10x10 kennel, which is chain link fencing.

Is a tarp my best option or does anyone have any other ideas?

(I have a kennel cover over the top, so I'm just talking about a way to cover/shade the east side or something?)

Well if you are worried about the tarp making a racket when it blows around you can go with canvas. I love canvas tarps. Although expensive, they last for years (for me they do) and don't make a ruckus.

I have a canvas tarp, it hardly moves at all and holds up very well (I pulled it out of the trash).

Shade cloth works well at limiting the sunlight that hits the interior of my coop in the late afternoon. I have two layers with a space between for better cooling without limiting airflow to the interior of the coop.
