I don't know if this is normal or not. My daughter just came hollerin' that there was blood in the poop.
The Goog tells me it could be cocci or just normal intestinal shedding.
My chicks have never been outside, but are not on medicated feed (as far as I can tell).
Thank you!

And they were totally fine?
Yep!

Chickens shed their intestinal lining fairly often. As long as it doesn't look like this over and over again, then they're fine.

If you do see this basically every time they poop, then it may be coccidiosis.

(This is what mine looked like-I also came to BYC asking about, they said it was intestinal shedding)

One thing, though. The poop looks a little watery. Do the chicks look too warm?

What are signs of too warm?
They are in the house that's 68 all day. They have a brooder plate up on the highest rung (so the lowest temperature).
Ok-if it's a brooder plate, then they should be fine.

It's mostly with heat lamps-people often put them too close and the birds can't escape the heat.

If they're too warm, they will pant, hold their wings out, etc.

I asked because the poop looked a little watery, which can be from increased water intake.
